What we believed: as we set out in 2009

  • The Orthotics staff members have been professional and caring despite the circumstances they have to work in
  • The Orthotics service has been chronically underfunded for a long period of time
  • The poor investment in the Orthotics service increases NHS costs elsewhere
  • The long wait for Orthotics devices causes patients unnecessary distress, suffering, discomfort and pain. It also affects their ability to perform at their best.
  • Orthotics delays undermine the work of other professionals eg Orthopaedic Surgeons, Paediatricians, Physios.
  • The people of North Staffordshire deserve a better Orthotics service than they currently have.

Current Situation in 2015

Local Commissioners have worked hard to turn around Orthotic care in North Staffs and Stoke on Trent. Initially the service was re-commissioned within the NHS but sadly standards did not improve for patients. From April 2015 Blatchford's (a private Orthtoic Company) took over the contract. Now the "Northern Staffordshire Orthotic Service" is delivered from a base in Chesterton with outreach clinics in local health centres across the area.

The following leaflets have been provided by Blatchford's to assist you :
